Why BKS

Filing software built to get it right.

File your Form 2290 in minutes, starting at $6.95. The platform handles the weight categories, mileage suspensions and IRS schema checks so you do not have to look them up yourself.

Automated accuracy

Your return is prepared and validated against the IRS schema by the platform before anything reaches the IRS. Weight categories, mileage suspensions, logging rates and Line 5 credits are computed for you, not something you look up.

Built for trucking

Owner-operators and fleets file here all year, so mid-period additions, sold and destroyed units, suspended vehicles and VIN corrections are routine flows here rather than edge cases.

Accountability

If the IRS rejects a return, the platform shows you the exact error code so you can correct it and refile at no additional filing fee. There is a support inbox to contact, not a form that disappears into nothing.

How it works

From your information to your Schedule 1

A simple, automated filing process. Five stages, and you are involved in exactly one of them.

  1. 01

    Tell us about your fleet

Your EIN, the vehicles, and when each first hit the road. A spreadsheet, a photo of the titles or last year’s Schedule 1 all work.

  2. 02

    The platform prepares your return

Instantly builds the Form 2290, computes the tax by weight category and checks it against the IRS schema before anything is transmitted.

  3. 03

    You review and sign

The figures are shown to you in plain English. You authorise the return with your own 5-digit IRS PIN, because federal law requires the taxpayer’s signature. No platform or person can do that step for you.

  4. 04

    Filed with the IRS instantly

Transmitted through IRS Modernized e-File under our own EFIN the moment you sign, not queued for review and not handed to a third party to send on our behalf.

  5. 05

    Your records stay organised

The stamped Schedule 1, the return and the IRS acknowledgement stay in your account. When a DMV or an auditor asks, the document is already there.

Who we serve

Built for every corner of the trucking industry

Owner-operators

One truck or a small operation, no back office, and no interest in learning a filing system once a year. We handle it and keep the paperwork.

Start filing

Fleets

Trucks added mid-period, suspensions to track, and credits worth claiming when a unit is sold or destroyed. One engagement covers the whole roster.

Fleet solutions

Accountants and dispatchers

Filing on behalf of carriers who would rather it came from a named person than a web form. Third-party designee details are collected up front.

Work with BKS

Client portal

Your filing. Your records. One place.

Secure access to your 2290 filings and documents whenever you need them. The stamped Schedule 1 stays on file, so producing it for a DMV or an auditor is a download rather than a phone call.

  • Every return, its IRS status and its acknowledgement in one list
  • Stamped Schedule 1 available to download the moment the IRS returns it
  • Resume a part-finished return from the step you left it on
  • Sensitive fields are write-only and never displayed back

The difference

Why customers choose BKS

Five things that are true of every return we file.

Instant, automated filing

The platform prepares and validates the return against the IRS schema before it is transmitted. No waiting on a preparer.

Accuracy first

Every return is validated against the IRS schema, so schema rejections are caught here rather than by the IRS.

Rejection support

If the IRS rejects a return, the platform shows you the exact error code so you can correct it and refile at no additional filing fee.

Secure and private

Your IRS PIN, the officer’s SSN and any bank account number are write-only: no screen, export or support tool can display them.

Always here

Email reaches the practice directly rather than a support queue, and a person who knows your filing answers it.

Pricing

Simple, transparent pricing

One flat fee per return, banded by fleet size. No packages, no add-ons, and no surprises at checkout.

Questions

Form 2290, answered

The questions we are asked most often.

What is Form 2290?

Form 2290 reports the federal Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax. It applies to vehicles with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more that use public highways, and it is filed with the IRS for a tax period running 1 July to 30 June.

Who needs to file Form 2290?

Whoever the vehicle is registered to. That is usually the owner, but it can be a lessee depending on the lease. If your vehicle is 55,000 pounds or more and runs on public highways, a return is due even when the vehicle is suspended and no tax is owed.

When is Form 2290 due?

The tax period runs 1 July to 30 June. For a vehicle already in use at the start of the period, the return is due by 31 August. For a vehicle first used later in the period, it is due by the last day of the month following the month of first use.

What information do I need to file?

Your business name and EIN exactly as the IRS holds them, the VIN and taxable gross weight of each vehicle, the month each was first used in the period, and a 5-digit self-select PIN to sign with. A Social Security number cannot be used in place of an EIN.

How does BKS file Form 2290?

The platform prepares the return from your information, checks it against the IRS schema, and transmits it through IRS Modernized e-File as an IRS Authorized e-file Provider under our own EFIN, rather than passing it to a third party to file on your behalf.

How do I receive my Schedule 1?

The IRS returns the stamped Schedule 1 on acceptance, and it appears in your account alongside the return and the acknowledgement. It stays there, so it can be produced again when a DMV or an auditor asks.

What happens if the IRS rejects my return?

You will see the exact error the IRS returned; correct it and resubmit through your account. Most rejections are a mismatch between the business name and the EIN the IRS holds, or a duplicate return for the same period. We do not charge our filing fee twice for the same return.

Can BKS correct a VIN?

Yes. A VIN typed incorrectly on a return the IRS has already accepted needs a VIN correction, which is a separate filing type rather than an edit to the original. It is priced below a new return.
